No, never. Detection and masking run entirely on your machine using the built-in AI model. Only the already-masked text is sent to the AI assistant you're using.
The extension analyzes the text you type in real time. It automatically detects sensitive data (names, emails, phone numbers…) and replaces it with generic tokens (e.g. [NAME], [EMAIL]) before anything is sent.
CleanPrompt works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Mistral and Z.ai. The extension automatically masks your data before it's sent on each of these platforms.
Free includes masking of personal data, a local AI model, and 2 custom keywords. Pro (monthly or yearly subscription) adds automatic masking on send, unlimited keywords, custom regex rules, companies and locations, and advanced data types (IBAN, national ID numbers, API keys).
Pro is paid monthly or yearly, from inside the extension. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, and a reminder email is sent 7 days before each renewal. You can cancel anytime with the extension's "Manage my subscription" button: you keep Pro until the end of the period you already paid for, and nothing more is charged.
On the Free plan you can add up to 2 custom keywords. On Pro you can add unlimited keywords and define your own regular expressions (regex).
CleanPrompt works on Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave…). Firefox support is planned.
The AI assistant only ever sees the masked text: tokens like [NAME] or [EMAIL] in place of your real data. Your sensitive information is never sent.
